About the product

KODO III: The Fighting Monk's Knife – A Combination of Elegance, Functionality and Martial Arts

We present to you a brand new product from our workshop, a knife called KODO III . This unique tool is not just steel and composite; it is the embodiment of a lifetime of experience and philosophy. KODO III "was designed by the 'martial monk' Josef Mádl - Jikan KODO." He tried to implement his deep knowledge of martial arts into every detail, all while maintaining the "simplicity and beauty of simple and graceful lines." We are convinced that it will find its true admirers among you, enthusiasts and practitioners.

Note: "The knife is currently only available on order, as the series produced sold out before publication. Thank you for your understanding."

Description of the knife designer:

Uncompromising design for "wet work" and self-preservation:

When designing the KODO III, the priority was inconspicuousness and maximum functionality. "When designing it, I tried to keep the exterior design as simple as possible, so that the knife would look ordinary. And again, it's like when Maybach/Mercedes put its insides into an old Volga..." But under this seemingly simple exterior are parameters that meet almost everything "that one wants from a 'wet work' knife..." In other words, a knife designed not only for attack, but also for effective defense.

Blade – Real TANTO and HIRA ZUKURI with HIRANIKU:

  • Tanto for maximum penetration: The working part of the blade is TANTO , "as a real Tanto should look and not that weak-minded attempt to make an exotic chisel. It has the parameters of a REAL Tanto." It is "straightforwardly shamelessly venomously pointed, for easy penetration even through a thick layer of clothing." The pitch of the point is designed so that "not only a stab with the energy of the boom, but also a slow pressure, when there is no room for anything else but the knife, for example, to push in the hold, it is designed to actually penetrate without the need to exert excessive force."
  • HIRA ZUKURI construction with HIRANIKU: All this is supported by the construction of the blade, which is, "as it is called in Japanese swords and TANTO, "HIRA ZUKURI", i.e. wedge-shaped, without a rib..." Although the rib is "a structural element that is necessary especially for longer blades. Or for blades that are expected to be used for leverage, hard cuts into bones... For example, hunting fangs, bayonets and the like", it is not needed for the KODO III. The wedge-shaped "HIRA ZUKURI" grind is also provided with "HIRANIKU", which means that it is convex over the entire surface in the vertical plane. "This strengthens the entire architecture of the blade, because a clean, straight wedge at the blade threatens to break." This indicates a deep understanding of the dynamics and durability of the blade.

G10 "Obsidian" handle - Sure grip for combat techniques:

The handle was made of G10 with an “Obsidian” finish , which Josef Mádl “generally prefers.” This finish provides “good adhesion when holding,” but at the same time “does not prevent smooth transitions from AITE to SAKATE.” (A detailed explanation of these techniques and the use of the knife will be “explained in detail to knife owners and knife fighting course participants in the video, at the camp, and at the courses.”)

"Nutcracker for Skulls" - Samebana for defensive techniques:

And finally, the back of the handle hides what Josef Mádl calls the Samebana, "aka the "Nutcracker for skulls" ... "whoever has not experienced how I have hit him with such a knife end in the Koraken - a sensitive point between the heads of the shoulder muscle, or another, can smile slightly. When he experiences it, he will certainly not miss a change of underwear." This element emphasizes the KODO III as a tool for effective self-preservation.

Kydex Holster – Safety and Quick Draw:

"The knife would deserve a leather sheath, and whoever wants it can additionally purchase it - order it, but the time demands a KYDEX sheath..." The knife is "securely seated in it and can be pulled out with one hand, when the fingers hold the handle and pull and the thumb rests on the upper back part of the sheath and by pressing the thumb and pulling the fingers together, the knife can be carefully released and pulled out."

Important warning from Jikan KODO: "Under no circumstances should you have your other hand in the places where the sheath opens from the blade side. It is the surest way to cut yourself. Unfortunately, thanks to the huge number of idiotic films in which incompetent advisors cannot cope with even the most skilled actors, the impression has been created that swords should be drawn from the sheath by holding the sword in front of you at eye level, the left or non-dominant hand holding the sheath and the dominant hand holding the handle, or tsuku of the sword. And by pulling apart from each other, the sword will be torn from the sheath... NEVER DO THAT!!! WHITNEY HUSTON HAD A BLUNT SWORD IN THAT MOVIE... Drawing the sword like that is the surest way to cut yourself or get stabbed... I only explain the reasons to my clients and students. Cut hands of incompetent civilians outside the circle of my charges are exactly what I can do nothing about and Hand surgery clinics, after a few months of work, can teach a patient to work a little with finger stumps or half of the palm, so that's it."

The KODO III knife is a complex tool whose depth will only be revealed when you understand the principles for which it was created. Get not only a knife, but also the key to new skills.
